ArtNOW FNQ - Cairns Contemporary Group Exhibition
Dec 2017-Feb 2018 - Cairns Art Gallery
The Cairns Art Gallery’s biennial exhibition, ARTNOW FNQ, showcases contemporary art by artists who live in or have cultural connection to Cairns and the region of Far North Queensland.
Drawing on personal symbolism, Rigley purposely explores hidden memory structures with the intent of putting them on display. Whether viewed in a snapshot recollection or as a distant blurred abstraction, these memories exiting outside their normal constraints form the basis for this work. Utilizing books as a metaphoric vessel of memories, the artist deconstructs and reassembles these objects, examining the possibilities for storing these intangible moments at a cellular level. Rigley’s focus is on the ordering of the chaos of the mind and the memories within.
