Understanding of place forms an integral link to traumatic loss. These experiential connections to location – the blue sky, the smell of summer grass, the heat from the ground – often translate into codded memory triggers that are just as powerful as the original event. These subjective recollections return unbidden and unprovoked.

Recollection and place are interwoven. The initial moment seems to frequently remain, repeated and embedded in memory. Although the passing of time can create a buffer, these recollections are unconsciously transferred into everyday life, often resurfacing unbidden, during obscure moments of current experince.
