A letter to a lost love ...
I am a Cairns-based artist with an interest in memory, exploring life patterns and finding narratives in the everyday. My latest project, I wrote a letter to my love, is based on hand-written letters. It considers the passing of time and the loss of the presence of those whom we love and who loved us – a universal experience – either by death or by circumstance.
To date, the installation and attached short documentary film has been shown in Cairns (Tanks Arts Centre, With Others, November/December 2015) and Singapore (SHOPHOUSE 5 Gallery, Shifting perspectives, March 2016). The work grows and evolves with each location and as more people contribute. As part of my residency (October 1-17) at the Blackall Cultural Association Living Arts Centre, I am inviting local residents to participate in growing the installation by adding their own letter. Can you be part of this ongoing project? Do you have a significant 'lost' person to whom you could write? The letter doesn't have to be serious or too long and can be written in a language of your choice. There is an option to seal your letter OR to allow others to have access to reading it. Your letter would be kept amongst others and be available to be read by the viewer who will also have the opportunity to add their own letter. Please let me know if you are willing and able to contribute. There is no special paper or stationary requirements, just as long as the letter is hand-written. The letter can be posted or scanned and emailed or written on location at the Blackall Living Arts Centre.
