The Object Project (2019-20)
DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL OBJECT? CAN YOU BE PART OF THIS PROJECT?
My focus is on the connection between ordinary objects and past relationships. These small, tangible keepsakes can create an important link back to those loved ones who are absent from our lives or now only exist in memory. The artworks will come from photographing your object and result in both drawing and installation-based pieces. Outcomes will include an exhibition (KickArts Contemporary Arts 2020) and an artist book.
Your object need not be impressive or expensive, just something which helps you automatically recall a lost loved one. This might be an everyday object that carries the patina of intimate or continuous use. The item might relate to an important memory, place and event or be so ordinary that it can only be significant to you.
Please contact me by email with details, including the type of object and how it connects you to your specific person.
For example, this hat reminds me of my mother because she wore it daily while undergoing her radiation treatment in 2017.
Perhaps these question might help you decide upon your 'special' object.
How did this person leave your life?
Why are they important to you?
What is your favourite characteristic about this person?
What did this person love doing the most?
